A school bus driver is facing charges following a two-vehicle crash in Niagara Region with a wheel missing and children onboard.
Police say the yellow bus and a Ford F-150 pickup came together just before 8 a.m. at the intersection Canal Bank Street and Ontario Road in Welland, Ontatio.
Police say that fire services were required to help extricate the driver of the other vehicle involved, a 47-year-old woman. She was transported to a local hospital with what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say that they began to receive calls from the public reporting that a school bus was travelling northbound on three wheels.
Police say the school bus failed to remain at the scene and reportedly travelled northbound for some time down Prince Charles Drive on only three wheels.
Officers stopped the bus near Prince Charles Drive and Thorold Road, approximately four kilometres from the crash site, and found a driver and four children onboard. All were assessed at the scene but did not require hospitalization.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged as a result and towed from the scene, police say.
The driver of the school bus has not been named by police. The driver, a 77-year-old man from Fort Erie, is facing two charges including careless driving and failure to remain.
